1920s POW Beaded Snake Choker

1920s POW Beaded Snake Choker

RARE 1920s beaded snake necklace!!

During WWI Turkish prisoners of war made crocheted, beaded snake souvenirs to sell or to send to family. After the war the craft spread and became a cottage industry. During the 1920s and 30s these beaded snakes were made as wearable jewelry. This is one such example.

LAYAWAY available; message me for info

The snake is super flexible due to its crocheted body. Done in gorgeous blue glass beads on a crocheted base with sky blue and cream flower-shaped spots throughout the body and for the eyes, and blue stripe at its neck. Can also be worn as a bracelet. This one was too short to get around my neck, might fit a smaller neck or would need a longer loop. I have kept original loop as is. Belly is done in silvery cream glass beads. 13.75" long end to end.
