1930s Custom Chinese Shantung Set

1930s Custom Chinese Shantung Set

Very rare unusual dress and cape set custom made in China during the 1930s! This set was discovered in an old steamer trunk in Virginia, unopened for decades!! I have never seen a set quite like this. Gorgeously made in strong super wearable ecru shantung silk. The dress is a westernized take on a Cheongsam style, with v neck and asymmetrical frog closures. Little epaulet details at shoulders. Incredibly well-tailored and fitted to the body. Hidden waist stay inside. Long sleeves with darts at elbows at frog closures at wrists. Cape features armholes, three sets of dual frog closures, and fabulous bright green embroidery on the collar. Long silk ties left of center a neck. SO fabulous and unique!!!
