1920s Spider and Web Drag Crossdressing Dress

1920s Spider and Web Drag Crossdressing Dress

Rare amazing 1920s adult size stage or costume fancy dress! This piece was handmade at home by someone in the 20s and is completely hand stitched for a party or a production. Fashioned in cream silk brocade in subtle stripes and black cotton with super dropped waist and oversized loose boxy fit. Large black feather plume at shoulder and beaded pin. Giant appliqued and beaded spider / web on front!!!

Most fascinating about this piece is its interior bust padding, constructed in rolled up and patchworked bits of different cream fabrics (cotton, knit wool) across the bust in the style of the typical flapper silhouette, which favored flattened breasts. This was most probably a crossdressing piece intended for a man, based on other similar specimens from the era and the new popularity of drag at this time. Interesting and extremely rare piece of history -- I have never owned another.
